On Monday 26th February, Year 4 had a brilliant day at the Botanic Gardens in the University of Leicester. We have been really enjoying learning about the rainforest at school and it was great that we had the opportunity to look at a whole range of plants and trees that live in a range of different habitats.

We explored the different habitats in which plants live and adapt - the desert, alpine and tropical areas - and we learnt some fascinating facts about some of the plants. For example, did you know that plants that live in mountainous areas have small, cushioned and aerodynamic leaves to protect them from high winds?

As we looked at the different habitats, we noticed a real change in the climate. The alpine house was very cold, the desert house was hot and dry whereas the tropical house was extremely hot and wet – we were really happy when we left that house!

We also created some collages of the rainforest, built some shelters and we even had some time to play in the snow too!

It was a busy day but we had a great time and would love to go back!
