At Loatlands Nursery our children are supported to learn holistically through play, exploration and experimentation. The outdoors is given great importance in our curriculum and we are fortunate to have a beautiful garden which children have access to for long periods every day. We also visit Forest School (on the main school site) once a week where children learn about the different seasons and creatures that share this space and have enriching experiences such as working with tools and cooking on a campfire.
We understand the importance of Communication skills in underpinning all areas of learning and we have recently been awarded Communication Friendly Setting Status, an external accreditation that recognises our language rich environment and highly trained staff.
The Team have taken great care in the development of our whole learning environment and provide a ‘workshop’ style set up where children can freely access the resources that they need, both indoors and out, this allows children to develop independence. Our resources have been selected so that they can provide endless possibilities, actively promoting creative and critical thinking skills, this ensures that our children are learning all the time! Furthermore, Staff join children in their play to support them and challenge them to move them on further in their learning. We regularly monitor levels of involvement to ensure that all children show strong signs of concentration, persistence and energy in their self-chosen activities.
In addition to the children’s self-chosen play, we provide children with high quality, adult-led direct teaching in small Key Groups. This has been carefully planned to ensure that children make good progress throughout the Nursery year and prepares them well for their Reception year.
From September 2024, our Nursery Unit will be offering morning sessions (9am-12noon), afternoon sessions (12noon-3pm) or 30 hour session (9am-3pm) to 3 and 4 year olds. If you would like to come and have a look around our nursery please call the school on 01536 903713 to make an appointment.
